The Rutland California Company
The relationship of the State of California with that of Vermont originated with the travels of the Rutland California Company of 1849, and was revived 139 years later with a return trip by a number of California Professors in 1979,That story is told here.
Two explanatory topics present the complete compact of the California Company, and a detailed summary of the activities surrounding the contemporary California visitors, the Morrow’s. An explanation of their gift to Vermont of a Metate, a stone used to grind meal adds an interesting touch.
